The Director.

Executive Director

Edward “DJ Phatty” Banks


Founder and current Executive Director of the Reading R.A.M.M. (Recording Arts Music & Media) Academy which operates five proven youth programs in Northeast Ohio, Mr. Banks has been a professional disc jockey and music producer (DJ Phatty Banks) for over 30 years. As a single parent concerned with his own children's poor academics, he developed and facilitated programs in the schools they attended to help combat the negative impacts of pop-culture on youth and the at-risk environments they navigate through. Along with his continued relationship with entertainment, Phatty has dedicated the last 12 years of his life to project-based and social emotional learning youth programming .

Project Based Learning.

Over 10 years ago we introduced Reading RAMM (Recording, Arts, Music & Media) a project-based learning tool that motivates children to focus on reading while simultaneously introducing multimedia as a method to strengthen and incorporate academic skill sets relative to the statewide indicators that are deemed the greatest need based on pre and post tests.

Social Emotional Learning.

In 2012 we developed our project-based social emotional learning program embedded with themes in a teen summit format that will encourage youth to better confront issues that are barriers to academic success such as youth violence, teen pregnancy, bullying, self-esteem, peer pressure, alcohol, tobacco and substance abuse.

Teacher & Student SEL Focus.

In 2014 we expanded our SEL mission to improve school culture and academics utilizing a holistic student and teacher focused SEL approach to improve conditions for learning. Utilizing professional developments like “Untapped Talent: Motivating Underperforming Youth” and "What's in My Book Bag" have improved school climate.

Year 2017 we expanded our focus to empower and unify greater Cleveland’s urban arts and culture infrastructure by education, empowering, industry networking and community engagement. .
